Using Effective Massage Techniques
The following course is designed to provide practitioners with effective assessment skills/treatment options for dealing with common problems. The content includes Resisted Muscle Testing, Advanced Remedial Techniques, Trigger Points, Soft Tissue Release and Muscle Energy Techniques. You will also gain an understanding of more serious conditions often experienced by clients and be able to offer them techniques that make substantial change. The course will include:
Learn the process for balancing the lower body including correction techniques, soft tissue releases, stretching/ lengthening, assessments and corrective exercises. Understand pathology of the Lower Limb including Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, Tendonitis, Anterior Compartment Syndrome, ITB Friction Syndrome and many more. Learn functional assessments of Knee and Ankle, Orthopaedic Tests, Myofascial and Trigger Point Releases, mobilisation and positional release techniques.
Focus will be on conditions that are affected by these 2 important muscles, Piriformis and Psoas which are often the cause of many lower back, sacral and hip abnormalities. You will also be introduced to the Sacro Wedgy, the latest therapeutic tool for assisting to stabilise the sacrum and re-educate the lower torso in regard to correct positioning. The Sacro Wedgy isolates, cradles and elevates only the sacrum. With the sacrum elevated, gravity helps the hip drop and relaxes the piriformis muscle and sciatic nerve. You will learn advanced techniques to enhance your treatments.
Learn the process for balancing the Pelvic Girdle, Pelvic Girdle Assessment, Structural and Postural Assessments, Range of Motion and Resisted testing. Learn orthopaedic tests to differentiate between lesions of the hip, SI Joint, Lumbar and Pelvis region which may exhibit similar pain patterns. Understand the role of Myofascial Trigger Points in lower back pain and muscles that can refer pain to the lower back and hip. Master various correctional skills including advanced massage, myofascial techniques and stretching.
Learn to assess conditions and lesions of the Shoulder including bursitis, dislocated shoulder, rotator cuff tears, tendonitis and frozen shoulder using assessment techniques such as visual, passive, active, palpation and orthopaedic tests. Master tests for isolating the prime movers of the shoulder and assessing the muscle tendon unit. Learn treatment techniques such as trigger point and soft tissue releases, mobilisation and stretching exercises.
Gain knowledge of lesions of the cervical spine including arthritis, whiplash, Torticolis, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Herniated disc and more. Make bilaterial comparison and identify soft tissue and bony landmarks. Learn techniques to release the shoulder girdle, neck, facet joints, SCM and Scalenes and myofascial release techniques for the neck and cranium.
The aim of Rehabilitation Stretching is to help establish biomechanical integrity with specific stretches and exercises that optimise posture by addressing the balance of strength and flexibility between muscle groups and so maintaining or allowing a return to co-ordinated pain-free movement. You will understand the types and concepts of stretching and learn/practice various stretches for injury rehabilitation of the body’s muscles. This will provide you with valuable skills to assist educate your clients on the many benefits of rehabilitation stretching.
