Chiropractic is an approach to health and wellbeing that focuses on the body’s own natural ability to function and heal itself.  The human body is extremely complex and intricate and is made up of over 75 trillion cells with specialised functions that adapt to your body’s changing requirements.
It is the brain and nervous system, which control the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. This very delicate and important tissue is protected by the skull and spinal column, which is comprised of 24 moving bones.
Many everyday activities can cause bones to lose their normal motion or position, which affects the spinal column, nerves, muscles and soft tissue. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissues and organs throughout the body. Doctors of Chiropractic refer to this as the vertebral subluxation complex.
A vertebral subluxation is an area of altered spinal motion, tension or misalignment that interferes with the flow of information and energy along the spinal nerves and throughout our nervous system.
There are various things that can cause vertebral subluxations like physical, mental, emotional or chemical stress.  Some of the possible effects of vertebral subluxations include:
- Reduced function of the different organs or system of your body
- Changes in muscular tension
- Reduced flexibility , balance, muscle strength and co-ordination
- Asthma and allergies
- Reduced ability to learn, concentrate and other behavioural problems
- Reduced ability to sense or feel your body and emotions
- Poor posture and altered spinal curves such as Scholiosis
- Low back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, pain in other parts of the body (depending on which nerves are affected)
Adjustments are the precise methods Chiropractors use to correct vertebral subluxations and improve the function of your spine and nervous system. Adjustments are designed to be specific, effective, and as comfortable as possible.
There are many ways to adjust the spine, some methods are quick and others require a slow constant pressure. Regardless of the adjusting technique, Chiropractic care is tailored to each patient’s age, condition, and spinal problem. After years of training and clinical experience each Doctor of Chiropractic becomes highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting techniques.
To become a Doctor of Chiropractic requires 5 years of University education, comprising of extensive study in anatomy, physiology, body mechanics, pathology, radiology, biochemistry, nutrition and adjusting techniques.  Chiropractors also attend additional post-graduate studies and seminars to keep their knowledge and expertise up to date throughout their career.
Chiropractic Care is a natural approach to better health that is proven safe and effective. Its focus is to help you be as healthy and vibrant as you can be, performing at your best and living life to the fullest.
